Do I need to find a guru or something before I can really start working on myself?
The answer to this question is contained in Eternal Verity #3:
When the student is ready, the Master will appear
When you reach certain stages in your development as an evolving being, you receive "perks", corresponding to the level you've attained, such as mystical experiences or heightened psychic awareness. There will ultimately come a point when a teacher will manifest in your life, to help you along in your work.
It's important to note the wording of the above Verity: the Master appears. This means you don't have to go off to India or wherever to find this person, you just keep on working on yourself and when they feel that you're ready, they come to you.
